Job Description
Los Angeles, CA - Cedars-Sinai Medical Center seeks a visionary and collaborative leader with a significant academic record of contributions in medicine to serve as its next Chair for the Department of Medicine . The Chair will have the opportunity to advance the department across all four mission areas (Research, Clinical, Education, and Outreach), broaden its impact on the health of the communities throughout Southern California as well as build upon the organization’s national and international impact in research and education.

As the largest clinical department in the medical center, the Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai is renowned for its excellence in patient care, research, and education. These missions are supported by 9 divisions, 190 faculty, 55 fellows, 99 residents, and 490 staff who reach over 42,600 patients annually. In fiscal year 2023, the department secured over $65 million in research funding, including $48.57 million from the NIH, $12.98 million from industry and over $5 million from foundation grants. Leading the Department of Medicine, the next Chair will be a nationally recognized physician leader and scholar in medicine, with a proven commitment to clinical care, research, medical education and training, and community engagement. The Chair will develop and execute, along with the Dean, a strategic plan to lead the robust growth of research programs designed to enhance basic, translational, clinical sciences along with outcomes research. They will work to fully develop key institutional partnerships, define strategic relationships, actively pursue interdisciplinary research goals. The Chair will have the knowledge and ability to effectively inspire, mentor, and lead physicians, researchers, and educators while embracing the values of diversity and belonging, quality, and financial sustainability in concert with assuring the wellness of faculty, staff, and trainees.
The successful candidate will be a passionate and forward-thinking leader committed to recruiting and retaining outstanding clinical leaders, faculty, and improving care delivery. They will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to promote the growth of others, manage and collaborate. This physician leader will set forth uncompromising standards of professionalism and an ability to take a larger institutional view, which is integral to the Department's and the health system’s success. The Chair will bring a leadership approach that demonstrates the values of transparency, approachability, empowerment and trust amongst department members.
Candidates must have the leadership experience required to oversee a complex, multi-site, and busy clinical department across Cedars-Sinai. The successful candidate will have integrity, intellect, the ability to work collaboratively with numerous stakeholders, a core value of inclusive and equitable leadership, and a vision of how a modern academic department of medicine thrives in the current health care landscape. Candidates must possess a personal history of academic success, including impactful publications, a track record of extramural funding, and national/international recognition through elected positions and awards. Candidates must have completed an M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree, possess current board certification in a field of internal medicine within the department’s scope and warrant qualification for appointment to Professor at Cedars-Sinai.

We offer competitive total compensation that includes pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total compensation range shown takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including knowledge/skills; relevant experience and training; education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors. This total compensation range includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role, as well as the estimated value of our comprehensive faculty benefits package.
Total compensation range: $750,000 - $1,000,000
