This dynamic position will provide support for the Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The nurse practitioner position offers an opportunity to work closely with top academic and research physicians affiliated with the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The nurse practitioner (NP) will also work collaboratively with physicians in the multidisciplinary team working with the Pulmonary Hypertension program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently obtain medical history, perform appropriate physical examinations, and dictate progress notes if needed with the appropriate physicians.

  • Formulate a plan of care for patients in the Pulmonary Hypertension program.

  • Make rounds on inpatients admitted with PH.

  • Coordinate timely consultations and transfers of patients to the PH program at Cedars.

  • Help the physicians provide screening, consultation and answers to incoming questions from referring physicians.

  • Will have prescriptive authority to order and perform to diagnostic tests including a 6 minute walk test and occasionally, stress echocardiograms or cardiopulmonary exercise (CPX/CPT).

  • Coordinate prescriptions with specialty pharmacies and help obtain authorizations for the drugs.

  • Provide education to the patients about their conditions and the drugs available for their use and will provide teaching about any drug prescribed and drug-drug interactions.

  • Responsible for providing educational pamphlets to patients and prescriptions according to guidelines of adjuvant therapies such as O2, anticoagulation, diuretics, immunizations, etc.

  • Help with compliance and administration of different therapies including inhaled, subcutaneous and IV prostanoids.

  • Follow-up on these therapies with frequent phone calls to patients, particularly after initiation of therapy or after an episode of decompensation and as per the guidelines on pulmonary hypertension.

  • Screen patients for enrollment in clinical trials and research projects and participate actively in the conduct of these trials.

  • Provide emotional support to our PH patients and their families, and will participate in Cedars’ support groups once established.

  • Remain up to date with published pulmonary hypertension guidelines and the most important literature on all aspects of pulmonary hypertension

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the Board of Registered Nursing.

  • MSN Degree required

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license issued by the State of California

  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certificate or eligible to obtain

  • Furnishing number issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)

  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association


  • Three years clinical nursing experience including acute care, cardiology, and pulmonary hypertension preferred
