Cedars-Sinai Per Diem Cardio Sonographer - Cardiology in Beverly Hills, California

Summary of Essential Job Duties

The Cardiac Sonographer Level II assists in all procedures performed in the Noninvasive Cardiac Laboratory (Echo) and is a member of the Echo Laboratory. He/she provides a safe patient care environment. Has the responsibility and accountability for recording 2-Dimensional Echocardiograms/Doppler/Color Flow examinations using ultrasound equipment to provide data for diagnosis of heart ailments. Demonstrates proficiency in the performance of all procedures and competency in the use of all related ultrasound equipment and computers.

Assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the imaging process and delivery of patient care regulated by department policies

Demonstrates clinical competency and technical skills as Sonographer

Utilizes his/ her knowledge on ultrasound equipment to aid physician in diagnosing

Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements in delegation of tasks, complete a comprehensive report for the echocardiography findings.

Skill in interpreting and applying written guidelines, precedents and work practices to standardized work situations or specific cases

Demonstrates critical thinking and performance in the coordination, implementation and documentation of patient care and consistently performs according to the standards of the profession.

Explain the purpose and procedure of each test to the patient in a professional and friendly manner

Prepare patients for the study.

Appropriately acquire all echocardiographic measurements per protocol, create digital preliminary reports for the interpreting physician, and verbally communicate preliminary findings to the interpreting physician when necessary.

Participates and volunteers on the Educational meetings

Assists and complies with ICAEL requirements

Acts as a role model in providing care; precepts new staff.

Aids on new staff orientation

Demonstrate capability to provide high quality imaging under stress/ high volume situation

Be flexible on the schedule, provide appropriate coverage scheduled by department

Skilled in using the practices and principles of effective and persuasive communications.

Ensures the integrity of data for clinical elements, demographics, billing information for physician reports

Performs other duties as assigned

Prepare, supply and equip ultrasound rooms to meet specific requirements for procedure

Take initiative and work independently

Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.

Work with colleagues in a "team approach" to encourage a positive and service- oriented image for the department. Respond to requests in a timely and friendly manner. Utilize professional language and action at all times.

Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services and procedures to patients utilizing independent judgment, with real-time and off-line manipulation of echocardiographic images for capture, display and analysis of

echocardiography data.

Assists the physician with Echocardiography guided studies to aid them in proceeding with complex procedures to decrease potential associated

procedural risks.

Assist in establishing and maintaining department objectives and goals by functioning as a site Charge Sonographer.

Educational Requirements

Graduation from a CAAHEP or other accredited diagnostic ultrasound program required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) is required.

Cardiac Sonographer licensure

CPR from the American Heart Association and/or American Red Cross


A minimum of 3-year experience in high volume facility is required.

Ability to interpret physician instructions and patient medical and clinical records to determine type of ultrasonic procedure/test to be performed

Candidate must understand concepts of the physics of ultrasound, demonstrate advanced knowledge of full range of echocardiographic procedures, including bubble studies, exercise stress echo, pharmacological stress echo

Candidate must be proficient with cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics with a thorough understanding of cardiac abnormalities and disease processes

Ability to recognize segmental wall motion abnormalities at rest and with stress and understand Strain imaging principles

Experience with contrast echo, Stain imaging and 3D echocardiography is a plus but not required

Must be able to float to labs in other clinic locations as needed
