The Department of Computational Medicine is a robust infrastructure that supports bioinformatics, computational, and statistical needs of all faculty across the Cedars-Sinai enterprise and the expanding needs of our Departments and Institutes.

Under general supervision, the Associate Programmer Analyst is responsible for application development supporting business objectives while providing junior-level expertise in software development lifecycle phases from concept and design to testing. This role will analyze, design, and build component-based applications, including the introduction of an application layer, modeling techniques, component and object-oriented design, complex algorithmic coding, and systematic approaches to application integration. You will work on new and existing applications, perform hands-on coding, and assist in architecting solutions. You may also serve as a liaison to internal customers, research groups, and various business support areas.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing and building component-based applications.

  • Assist in the design, develop and support applications written in various programming languages using current and new development technology including J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JavaScript, HTML, XML and Oracle.

  • Under supervision, test and deploy new features and versions of core applications, databases, and utilities.

  • Debug and maintain deployments of core applications, databases, and utilities, escalating for help when necessary.

  • Assist and support the creation of enhancements to software applications for review by more senior members of the staff.

  • Work in a team environment to create component/subsystem documentation, and help to produce design and technical specifications as needed for technical documentation.

  • Participate in discussions about translating customer requirements, recommending system solutions, and helping to formulate detailed specifications from which programs are written.

  • Support technology infrastructure, participate in the design and technical meetings, and liaise with end users, research groups, and other business support areas.

  • May create drafts of technical documentation for internal business and design teams.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, required.

Experience and Skillset:

  • One (1) or more years of experience managing application design, software development, and maintenance. Two (2) years of IT experience in a team environment.

  • Experience using various programming languages is highly desired.

  • Technical understanding of data and relational databases and technical data design.

  • Understanding of Unified Modeling Language tools and how they are applied to OO design.

  • Unix, Linux, and Windows operating systems.

  • C#, C++, C skills helpful.
