Cedars-Sinai Associate Programmer/Analyst in Los Angeles, California

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

Under general supervision, responsible for application development supporting business objectives while providing junior-level expertise in software development lifecycle phases from concept and design to testing. Analyses, designs and builds component-based applications, including introduction of an application layer, modeling techniques, component and object-oriented design, complex algorithmic coding, and systematic approaches to application integration. Works on new and existing applications. Performs hands-on coding and assists in architecting solutions. Assists with High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster management and support. May serve as liaison to internal customers, research groups and various business support areas.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in designing and building component-based applications

  2. Assist in the design, development and support of applications written in various programming languages using current and new development technologies which may include PHP, Python, R, JavaScript, HTML, XML, Oracle and other evolving technologies

  3. Under supervision, test and deploy new features and versions of core applications, databases and utilities

  4. Debug and maintain deployments of core applications, databases and utilities, escalating for help when necessary

  5. Assist with the creation of enhancements to software applications for review by more senior members of the staff

  6. Assist with the creation of component/subsystem documentation. Help to produce design and technical specifications as needed for technical documentation

  7. Participate in discussions around translating customer requirements, recommending system solutions, and helping to formulate detailed specifications from which programs are written

  8. Liaison with end users, research groups and other business support areas

  9. Participate in design and technical meetings

  10. May create drafts of technical documentation for internal business and design teams

  11. Assists with management of day to day operations of the High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster

  12. Assists with providing HPC support for researchers, including troubleshooting pipelines and software installations

  13. Participate in HPC design and technical meetings, including maintaining HPC documentation as necessary

  14. Assists with training for new HPC users

  15. Assist with end-user training and support of developed applications

Educational Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Mathematics or related discipline required

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

Not applicable


•1 or more years of experience managing application design, software development, maintenance or equivalent experience

•2 years IT experience in a team environment preferred or equivalent experience

•Prefer experience using various programming languages (Python, R, JavaScript, HTML, CSS)

•Technical understanding of data and database architecture

•Experience with Unix, Linux and Windows operating systems

•C#, C++, C skills helpful
