This position assists leadership in maintaining the integrity of the medical staff information chain, starting from its source in the originating application, through any programmed interfaces or extracts, and including any "downstream" databases, files, tables, or applications from which analyses or reports are derived that make use of any of the data elements originating from the source. This position also serves as the primary back-up to department leadership, developing and exercising the capability to cover core support responsibilities when the they are away from the medical center.

This position's primary customers are Cedars-Sinai Health System's management and staff of the Centralized Credentialing department. In addition, other customers include all departments and staff that enter data into the originating application, including but not limited to Medical Delivery Network, the departments of Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education, and Health Information (Medical Records Chart Completion), as well as departments and staff that rely on using that data for their day-to-day patient care work, including but not limited to Finance, Nursing, Admissions, Operating Room Services, and Health Information (Medical Records Coding).

What will you be doing:

  • Creates datasets and documents dataset design specifications, including identifying the most expedient and reliable way to obtain data. Works with Medical Delivery Network and other departments such as Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Enterprise Information Services, Finance and Medical Records to identify and acquire access to needed data elements.

  • Maintains data dictionaries and database tables, and understands how to manipulate data within specific applications the business application(s).

  • Manipulates various query and reporting software in the desktop environment for the extraction of data from various databases, and the routine creation of meaningful information in various reporting formats.

  • Establishes and maintains appropriate linkages among data sets for the routine operationalization of needed relational data structures.

  • Maintains current documents in a timely fashion, data procedures, queries, and report specifications, whether routine or ad hoc.

  • Establishes effective working relationships across institutional boundaries as needed to ensure that information products meet internal customer needs, and ensure that internal suppliers of data or information provide a sufficiently high quality to be useful.

  • Assists department leadership in coordinating all new system releases with the vendor, development of technical policies, procedures, and documentation, as it relates to credentialing processes and workflows. Functions as secondary technical resource to EIS staff and the EIS Help Desk, as it relates to MSOW and other business process application(s).

  • May be responsible for data set construction, data analysis, and report production, utilizing the query and reporting tools built into the application i.e. Crystal Reports.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Information Sciences, or related field of study required. Masters preferred

  • 2 years experience in managing and analyzing data sources and systems related to business processes, including the ability to identify trends and make recommendations.
