Cedars-Sinai Executive Director, Nursing Resources in Los Angeles, California

The Executive Director of Nursing Resources is responsible for the daily coordination of nursing administration, for which she/he has responsibility, including clinical practice, human resource management, fiscal accountability, productivity, and regulatory compliance. She/he will exhibit leadership, humanism and professionalism in the management of her/his department. She/he demonstrates motivation and creativity and serves as a catalyst for effective changes within Nursing at the institutional and department level. The Executive Director of Nursing Resources oversees nursing staff in the provision of nursing care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, The Plan for the Provision of Nursing Care, The Plan for Provision of Patient Care, CSMC Code of Conduct, The Performance Improvement Plan, The Patient Education Plan and Professional Organization Standards.

The Executive Director of Nursing Resources is responsible for promoting evidenced-based practice that achieves patient-centered care and regulatory compliance. In addition to demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the trends and forces that shape the health care delivery system, the provision of care, and other emerging issues in health care. In addition to demonstrate flexibility and initiative to effectively lead change efforts to respond to environmental or organizational change.


  • Articulate organizational goals and vision and can regularly communicate relevant information to subordinates. Demonstrate and promote leadership behaviors and cultural values as defined in the CSMC mission and vision.

  • Possess a highly developed ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies and can lead and manage through influence.

  • Provides strategic leadership for development and improvement of systems and processes that support patient care delivery.

  • Assists nursing leadership with the strategic deployment of quality, operational and nursing practice programs.

  • Adept at fiscal management capabilities including effective expense reduction, utilization management, budget control and new revenue generation.

  • Exercise leadership and sound decision-making in maximizing the use of CSMC’s financial resources, in meeting the organization’s financial goals, and in planning to maintain and/or improve CSMC’s future financial performance.

  • Direct knowledge and experience in service pricing and contracting.Lead the design and organization of work, and allocation of resources to achieve appropriate staffing levels and mix, and productivity levels.

  • Must participate in quality and service improvement activities and achieving outcomes, which respond to customer expectations.

  • Establish systems for appropriate management controls in all areas of responsibility.

  • Ensure organizational compliance with legal and regulatory standards, internal policies and procedures, moral and ethical codes.

  • Demonstrate and encourage innovation and prudent risk taking.

  • Demonstrate and foster initiative in programs, services, or problem-solving activities which support CSMC goals and business objectives.

  • Be flexible in thinking and expeditious in taking action to solve organizational problems.

  • Anticipate and be proactive in identifying, appropriately defining, diagnosing and resolving problems, taking relevant factors and consequences into account.

  • Develop and implement measurable objectives consistent with the organization's mission, goals and timetables. Is flexible and adjusts plans to meet changing conditions.

  • Promote the delivery of quality nursing care for areas of responsibility including development, implementation and reporting of staffing effectiveness.

  • Ensure the efficient and effective utilization of personnel resources to provide nursing care within the confines of AB

    • Guides nursing staff in the provision of nursing care consistent with established standards, policies, and procedures. Assure that staff is competent in the provision of clinical and age-related care to assigned patient population.
  • Ensure a focus on patient satisfaction (engagement), providing feedback to staff regarding positive and negative patient comments and participating in customer satisfaction initiatives.

  • Make patient-centered rounds promoting safe, quality patient care and contributing to customer relations.

  • Promote the professional development of nurse leaders through higher education and formal mentoring as strategies for succession planning.

  • Develop education plan and implement strategies to communicate to employees the current forces that shape the future of healthcare and how to engage employees in supporting the quadruple aim.

  • Evaluate and revise system and processes of nursing services to ensure achievement of nurse-sensitive patient, client or family centered outcomes.

  • Serve as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit and retain future nurse administrators.


  • Master’s Degree Master’s Degree in Nursing (or other acceptable post graduate degree if incumbent has a BSN in Nursing) preferred.

  • Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.

Work Experience

  • Clinical Experience: A minimum of five years clinical experience required.

  • Administrative Experience: A minimum of five years administrative experience required.

  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements working knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission and other state and local regulatory requirements.

  • Communication Strong interpersonal and communication skills. And has full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

  • Health Care Technology Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area.

  • Customer Service Skills Demonstrates commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.

  • Ability to work independently and multitask Demonstrated success working independently, forging relationships, and managing multiple tasks with minimal directions.

  • Analytical Skills Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information for decision support.

  • Computer Skills High level of proficiency using Microsoft Windows and other Microsoft Office software: MS Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint Word, etc.

  • Must be able to manage competing priorities, while being extremely adaptable and flexible and maintaining a positive work environment.
