Cedars-Sinai Imaging Command Center Specialist - Part Time in Los Angeles, California

Part time position:

Saturday - Sunday

10:00 a.m - 6:30 p.m

Under general supervision, the Command Center Specialist (CCS) is responsible for all aspects of processing inpatient Imaging orders and coordinating patient flow. This work area operates 24/7 and is the department’s Command Center. The CCS is expected to organize, prioritize and perform work in a timely and efficient manner, within established guides, practices and procedures. Using critical thinking skills, make judgment calls and involve the radiologist, nurse, technologist and AOC when necessary. The CCS coordinates multiple inpatient procedures, with a focus on CT scans, X-ray, and Fluoroscopic exams. He/she schedules, modifies, reschedules, and cancels anesthesia requests and coordinates inter/intra department to assist with patient flow. He/she dispatches transportation staff, and coordinates radiologist-assisted procedures and those requiring speech therapists. He/she monitors incoming orders and the Inpatient worklist throughout the day for new orders, makes calls to nursing floors regarding exam time estimates, and provides exam-specific information. This position also dispatches the portable technologists and keeps them informed of new portable requests, verifies inpatient orders, and obtains exam specific lab results. He/she assists the technologists in maintaining the RIS open orders, using PACS as a checkpoint. Telephone duties include taking incoming calls; triaging, screening, and forwarding calls to appropriate areas. She/he also participates in collecting data for process improvement projects. Because the Command Center is a primary department contact during afterhours and weekends, staff are expected to maintain a general knowledge of the entire department, and should be able to make judgment calls and involve the Imaging Administrator on Call (AOC) and RIS/PACS AOC when needed. After hours, staff identify department-wide STAT requests, and notify the appropriate on-call staff.

Education required:

Two years of college or comparable level of education and experience. Baccalaureate degree preferred.

Experience required:

Minimum two years of experience in a fast-paced and complex environment where critical thinking skills are necessary.

Previous experience in a medical environment is desirable.

Medical terminology knowledge is preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with physicians, nurses, technologists, patients and other customers and personnel of the Medical Center.

Experience demonstrating the ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to prioritize and organize work, and complete assignments timely and accurately.

Windows based PC experience.

Ability to type 35 to 40 WPM.

Physical demands:

Frequent sitting and standing; occasional walking and bending; occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds.

Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including: telephones, beepers, and all alarms.

Visual acuity acceptable for performing duties of this position.

Sufficient mobility to access equipment, patients, and other customers.
