What will you be doing in this role?
The Medical Laboratory Assistant functions with the general supervision of senior technical/clinical personnel. Responsibilities may include receiving, processing, and distributing laboratory specimens or blood and communicating information about tests and test results. Sends blood components to the patient care areas via the pneumatic tube system and monitors delivery of by pneumatic tube. Makes blood components from whole blood, leukocyte reduce blood, irradiate blood components, split, and pool blood components, freeze, and wash red blood cells for transfusion. The MLA activities include operational and support functions and assisting in the orientation and training of new employees. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the age and developmental issues of the patient populations(s) being served.
High school diploma or its equivalent.
BS degree in Clinical Science or related fields preferred.
- One year of clinical laboratory experience, including familiarity with laboratory information systems preferred.
