Cedars-Sinai Patient Access Rep II in Los Angeles, California

The Patient Access Rep II is an advanced level position and is expected to have a high level of proficiency in all department duties and be competent to fill in on an interim basis in any department within Admissions with minimal refresher training. The P.A.R. II performs all admissions activities for pre-admit and face-to-face registration of patients presenting to the Main Admissions and/or outpatient areas for treatment. Facilitates patient access to Cedars Sinai Medical Center and secures all demographic and financial patient registration information. This will include the following: Registration, PreRegistration, insurance verification, Third Party Liability (TPL) screening, Medi-Cal / Medicare eligibility verification, Workers Compensation eligibility, and securing cash deposits (co-pays, deductibles, cash packages). Able to explain information and answer questions. Performs patient financial counseling. Demonstrates competency skills including the ability to perform job duties and interact with customers with sensitivity and attention to the patient population(s) served.Education required:

HS grad. BS degree preferred

License/ Certifications required:

Required to sit for CHAA Certification exam within one year of being hired or achieving PAR II level.

Experience required:

Min 3 yrs exp in healthcare Revenue Cycle exp reqd.

Knowledge of the revenue cycle required: Understands hospital billing and where Admissions fits into the revenue cycle.

 Understands insurance contracting and basic interpretation of same.

 Understanding of Authorization requirements.

Medical terminology required.

 Able to communicate financial and privileging issues with physicians.

 Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills for interacting with patients, payers, physicians and other CSHS customers. Strong interviewing skills. Able to facilitate conversations with patients, patient's reps and physicians. Able to assist customer service team with complex cases.

 Intermediate math skills required

 Demonstrated problem solving, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills.

 Able to compose business correspondence.

 Demonstrated ability to collect cash.

 Proficient knowledge of regulatory requirements and CSMC policies and procedures specific to the admissions department and sound interpretation of same.

 Demonstrated ability to work well as a team player and independently.

 Able to multi-task and work in a fast pace environment with conflicting demands on time and attention.

 PC literacy: Fully competent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and online reporting); email browsers, insurance verification tools. Fully competent in admissions computer applications and associated software.

 English language proficiency. Bi-lingual preferred / helpful.

Physical demands:

 Employee must be able to lift > 5 lbs

 Employee must be able to bend/twist

 Employee must be able to sit in front of a computer approximately 90% of their scheduled shift to do data entry

 If assignment requires, employee must be mobile to work from a portable device/mobile workstation approximately 50% of their scheduled shift to do data entry at bedside

 Employee must be able to utilize keyboard to continuously type throughout shift
