Summary of Essential Job Duties:
The Patient Service Representative (PSR), following established practices, policies, and guidelines, provides clerical and administrative support duties in the Endocrinology/Rheumatology clinic. The PSR will provide coverage to the different areas as needed. These duties may include answering incoming telephone calls, scheduling and authorizing appointments, diagnostic tests and ancillary services, patient check in/out and rescheduling of follow-up appointments, insurance authorization and verification functions, medical record preparation, processing referral work queue, HID scanning preparation, and appointment reminder calls. The PSR will apply a detailed knowledge of the areas of assigned responsibility, and a general knowledge of the ambulatory/outpatient physician setting and its interrelation with the larger Health System organization. He/She ensures the timely completion of work assignments in accord with established timelines.
Bachelor degree preferred.
Medical terminology coursework preferred.
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a healthcare, insurance, or related experience required. Previous work experience in an ambulatory or outpatient setting or physician’s office preferred.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills for interacting with patients, payors, physicians and other Cedars-Sinai Health System customers.
Must possess a minimum computer competency comprised of a working knowledge of Windows or a comparable system (specifically including keyboarding and mouse skills). Additionally, must possess a working knowledge of basic word processing, E-mail browsers and on-line internet access.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills, takes complete and accurate messages and relays information to appropriate party to support operational aspects of patient care. Patient appointment scheduling and ancillary services. Retrieves information from files as requested and assembles paperwork and reference material as requested by physicians, nurses, and patients. Responsible for following CSMC and HIPAA confidentiality guidelines while performing all duties. Demonstrates the ability to assemble the admitting and financial paperwork for inclusion on the patient chart in accordance with regulatory and CSMC requirements. Experience demonstrating the ability to handle multiple tasks frequently with short time-lines, to prioritize and organize work, and to complete assignments in a timely, accurate manner.
•Ability to interact effectively with Directors, Managers, internal staff, patients, physicians, and representatives of outside agencies.
