The Smidt Heart Institute is home to a distinguished team of experts who are setting the bar for cardiovascular treatment in the United States. The Institute unites 16 centers and programs to diagnose and treat the full spectrum of heart and vascular conditions for all patients, from infants to those with advanced disease. Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • The Physician Assistant will work primarily in the ambulatory setting providing for patients experiencing acute episodes of AFib that require immediate evaluation or support

  • Incorporates both independent decision making abilities and collaboration with the physician to provide expert care to the patients.

  • Responsible to assist with consultations for A-Fib patient referrals including reviewing the chart, performing history and physical examination, ordering diagnostic tests, reviewing results, and reporting to the surgeon as needed, and manage all aspects of the patient care in the outpatient clinic, including addressing patient calls and collaborating with other intradisciplinary team members.

  • Exercises autonomy in medical decision making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services through a collegial and cooperative team approach

  • Develops patient education and clinical guidelines, as well as helping patients in need of timely medical management

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Graduate from a PA program approved by Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid California PA license

  • PA certification issued by national Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

  • DEA License

  • Current BLS/ACLS certification

Experience:

  • Prior experience in cardiac or cardiac surgery
