Cedars-Sinai Postdoctoral Scientist - Department of Neurology - Sati/Rutishauser Lab in Los Angeles, California

The Groups of Drs. Sati and Rutishauser at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Scientist to lead new functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) research projects in patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions.

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation within a multidisciplinary team of expert neuroscientists, neuroimagers, neurologists and neurosurgeons, our Postdoctoral Scientist will investigate the neural mechanisms of cognition in patients suffering from epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or Alzheimer’s disease. You will be primarily based in the group of Dr. Sati, with access to state-of-the-art 3T clinical scanners, and a cutting-edge 3T research scanner at the Biomedical Imaging Research Institute (BIRI). You will also collaborate with Dr. Rutishauser’s group on an exciting new project involving a multi-modal study of the BOLD signal in epilepsy patients from which we are also performing intracranial single-neuron recordings. You will also have access to a comprehensive high-performance computing infrastructure.

Specifically, our Postdoctoral Scientist:

  • Will develop, adapt, and implement task-based and resting-state fMRI acquisitions and analysis methods.

  • Will design and perform fMRI experiments in human research subjects.

  • Will process, analyze, interpret, summarize and compile data.

  • Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation.

  • Will write or participate in publications and presentations as first-author or co-author.

  • May submit own grant or assist in preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Education Requirements:

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Biomedial Science, Physics, or a related field is required

Experience:

  • At least 2-years of hands-on experience with acquisition, processing and analysis of fMRI data (task-based and/or resting-state).

  • An advanced level of comfort and expertise using neuroimaging analysis platforms such as SPM, FreeSurfer, AFNI, or FSL are required. Strong programming skills (Matlab, Python or C/C++) and statistical skills (R or STATA) as well as experience with HPC analysis pipelines are preferred.

  • Works independently on research projects designed by one or more mentors within area of specialization.

  • Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.

  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.

  • Knowledge of safety standards of specialized equipment (MRI).

  • Has excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, self- and time-management skills, and the ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
