Cedars-Sinai Postdoctoral Scientist - Department of Neurology/Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging - Sati Lab in Los Angeles, California

The Department of Neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher who will lead positron emission tomography (PET) imaging research projects studying various neurological diseases. The Department has a well developed clinical and research infrastructure including the newly developed Jona Goldrich Center for Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders.

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation within a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neuroscientists, neuroimagers and neuroradiologists, our Postdoctoral Scientist will investigate the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation affecting the central nervous system of patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. You will be primarily based in the group of Dr. Sati, with access to a state-of-the-art simultaneous Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance (PET-MR) scanner where patients can be studied with commercially-available PET tracers. The selected candidate will also have access to a comprehensive high-performance computing infrastructure. Specifically, the Postdoctoral Scientist: 1) will develop, adapt, and implement PET acquisition and analysis protocols; 2) will design and perform PET experiments in human research subjects; 3) will process, analyze, interpret, summarize and compile data; 4) will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation; 5) will write or participate in publications and presentations as first-author or co-author; and 6) may submit own grant or assist in preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Education required:

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Physics, Biomedical Science, or related fields is required

Experience required:

  • At least 2-years of hands-on experience with acquisition, processing and analysis of PET data using various neuroimaging analysis platforms are required.

  • Strong programming skills and statistical skills are preferred.

  • Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.

  • Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.

  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.

  • Knowledge of safety standards of specialized equipment (PET, MRI).

  • Has excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, self- and time-management skills, and the ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
