The Postdoctoral Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator, Anders Berg, to make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in any academic discipline. The Postdoctoral Scientist may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific research or creative program. Postdoctoral Scientists are not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Ordinarily, the Postdoctoral Scientist will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series.


  • The Postdoctoral Scientist will work independently under the mentoring of the principle investigators.

  • The candidate is expected to independently design and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, troubleshoot experiments, analyze data for publication and grant applications, and present research at national and international meetings. He/she may assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals, publications and presentations, but is not responsible for acquiring grant funding. Teaching other research staff, students, and residents may be required.

Educational Requirements:

PhD or highest degree in the field. Demonstrates significant, original, and creative contributions to a research or creative program or project completion of postdoctoral appointment in area of specialization.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:



Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor within area of specialization. Work to include liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry systems. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent organization skills and very detail-oriented; learns new tasks quickly; self-motivated; works well independently with minimal supervision; works well with others; able to multitask. Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with peers.

Physical Demands:

Position requires working with mice, on the bench and on the computer for extended periods of time and the use of specialized laboratory equipment. Must be able to sit, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 11 pounds.
