Summary of Essential Duties:
Coordinationand delivery of care to oncology patients participating in clinicalresearch protocols
Followsall protocol related requirements. Demonstrates the knowledge, skills andability to perform required research nursing duties on phase I, II, andIII clinical trials
Reviewsall clinical study records, including informed consents, to ensurecomplete study documentation in compliance with regulations.
Managespatient care under the supervision of the MD to include symptomidentification, symptom management, and follow-up medical care
Triagespatient calls appropriately and consults with the physician when needed orrequested
Maintainsmanagement and oversight of patients being treated on assigned researchprotocols
Providesconsultation, support and education to patients and families as needed
Providesleadership to Coordinators and other ancillary staff regarding assignedprotocols and trial-related requirements
Providesfeedback to members of the management team in the development of policiesand procedures as requested
Practicessafe environmental and/or infection control methods
Participatesin planning, workshops, evaluation meetings, seminars, educational and/oradministrative meetings as necessary or requested
Performsrecord abstraction to obtain eligibility and inclusion/exclusion criteriafor patients in consideration for entry onto research studies
Providesaccurate and complete source documentation for patients taking part inresearch protocols
Documentsconcomitant medications and adverse events accurately per FDA and GCPguidelines
Validatespatient/family understanding of study requirements, risks and benefits byassisting the physicians in obtaining informed study consent
Accuratelycalculates study medication dosages, completes appropriate orders, andfollows all standard operation procedures
Performsclinic assessments for assigned patients and accompanies MD on patientclinic visits
Worksclosely with clinical research coordinators and data managers to completecase report forms and meet all data entry guidelines
Completesall documentation required for serious adverse event reporting
Assistsresearch staff in responding to data queries
Followsall FDA, GCP and ICH guidelines for study conduct in the care of patientson research protocols
Assistsin preparing for monitoring visits. Meets with monitors when requested orneeded
Seeksguidance and direction, as necessary, for the successful completion of jobduties. Asks appropriate questions when in doubt
Communicateswell with research nursing team and with management. Keeps supervisors/managementapprised of important departmental concerns and issues.
Providescare to patients including but not limited to peripheral lab draws,central line draws/care, and EKGs.
Graduateof an accredited nursing program required
Current,unrestricted California Registered Nurse license required
BLSfrom the American Heart Association required
OncologyCertified Nurse preferred.
Aminimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
Experiencein research and clinical trials required
