Cedars-Sinai Research Associate - Computational in Los Angeles, California

Job Summary :

Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I perform a variety of experimental analyses to support the objectives of several laboratory research projects in a specific area of research. The post-holder will: Assist in general activities in the computational laboratory, including maintenance of equipment, the dissemination of data files, and the monitoring of certain documents; keep accurate and detailed records of experiments and results; assist in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery; observe safety standards and procedures. The Research Assistant I will be able to perform routine computational processing of next generation sequencing files and data analysis. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential job Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of routine dry laboratory tasks and procedures.

Keeps accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results.

May assist with animal husbandry.

Maintains dry lab equipment and related records.

Transports, processes and logs samples.

Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.

Performs dry lab maintenance duties

Maintains stocks of general lab materials, and places orders for lab equipment and supplies.

Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory.

Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery.

Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures

Experience :

Understanding of general research objectives. Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software. Understanding of general research objectives. Familiar with routine computational laboratory procedures and experimental protocols. Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, programming in R, Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

Maintains organized files/folders with audit trail for each project.

Prepares files and performs analysis as designed by supervising Project Scientist.

Applies analysis pipelines designed by Project Scientists, Bioinformaticians and Faculty to various

datasets.

Physical Requirements (physical abilities essential to perform the job)

Able to perform moderate lifting. Able to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time. Able to operate standard office equipment. Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential and department specific job functions

Educational and Work Experience Preferences:

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological/computational sciences.

Programming experience in R
