Cedars-Sinai Research Associate I - Barrett Lab in Los Angeles, California
The Research Associate I (RAI) will provide technical support related to the preparation and analysis of laboratory specimens and conduct laboratory research under the direction of the PI or research staff studying a "disease in a dish" model of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
The aim of this research is to use intestinal organoids to elucidate some of the mechanisms involved with this disease. To achieve those goals our ongoing research projects involves induced pluripotent stem cell generation and maintenance, intestinal organoid generation and maintenance and their subsequent characterization. Working under direct supervision, the RAI performs a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of one or more laboratory research projects in a specific area of research. This position will require significant amounts of cell culture along with tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, western blot analysis and qtPCR. The individual is expected to function efficiently as an individual and cooperatively with a team of faculty, research scientists and associates and graduate students. Excellent written and oral communication and coordination of experiments and preparation of data for publication will be expected. Participation in laboratory meetings, keeping laboratory notebooks, performing calculations, tabulating data, summarizing methods and results of related experiments will be required. In addition, the position will order supplies and maintain inventory, prepare culture media, maintain general lab cleanliness and perform other work-related duties as assigned. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of routine laboratory tasks and procedures
May assist with animal husbandry
Maintains lab equipment and related records
Transports, processes and logs samples
Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.
Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization
Maintains stocks of general lab materials, and places orders for lab equipment and supplies using PeopleSoft
Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory
Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures
Scheduling flexibility including evening, weekend and holiday rotation commitment.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in biological sciences.
Experience and Skillset:
Prior relevant work experience is highly desirable, familiarity with microscopy is required.
Understanding of general research objectives
Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software
Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.
Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
