The Lung Institute BioBank at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center collects variety of respiratory and non-respiratory biospecimens from patients for high quality basic and translational research. Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate (RA) I performs a variety of clinical specimen collecting, handling, transporting, processing, and storing protocols. Able to operate essential laboratory equipment to process specimens. Together with these procedures, the Research Associate I incumbent assists, maintains, and organizes patients’ clinical electronic data files. Keeps accurate and detailed records of clinical samples and data. Maintain and monitor storage units, lab equipment, and regularly stock lab supplies. Observes laboratory safety standards and procedures. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of routine laboratory tasks and procedures associated with banking biospecimens.
Keeps accurate and detailed records of biospecimens.
Assists a clinical coordinator with various tasks related with biorepository
Maintains lab equipment and related records.
Transports, processes, and logs biospecimen samples.
Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.
Performs lab maintenance duties, including equipment and storage units.
Maintains stocks of general lab materials, and places orders for lab equipment and supplies.
Assists new students and interns at the lung institute biobank.
Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery.
Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
- Bachelors Degree in a Science related field required.
Experience and Skills:
Understanding of general research objectives.
Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software.
Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.
Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
Physical Demands : Able to sit for moderate periods of time. Able to use a computer workstation for moderate periods of time. Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Able to read papers online and documents. Able to operate standard office equipment. Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
