Cedars-Sinai Research Associate I (Per Diem) - MRI Hardware Engineering in Los Angeles, California

Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of one or more laboratory research projects in the Biomedical Imaging Research Institute’s MRI Hardware Engineering Laboratory. Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results. Assists in general laboratory activities, which may include maintenance of equipment and stocking of supplies. Files and monitors documents. Observes safety standards and procedures. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs a variety of routine laboratory tasks and procedures, including soldering and testing, and mechanical assembly, CAD and circuit drawing, basic software development including MATLAB and C, and basic image analysis.

  2. Keeps accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results, including electronics DC circuit testing results.

  3. Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery, including 3D printers and machinery tools.

  4. Maintains lab equipment and related records.

  5. Performs lab maintenance duties.

  6. Maintains stocks of general lab materials, may place orders for lab equipment and supplies.

  7. Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory.

  8. Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.

Experience:

  • This position requires experience creating circuit drawings and PCB layouts, experience with electronics soldering, testing and mechanical assembly, and working knowledge of MATLAB, C and C++.

  • Experience with CAD for 3D printing experience a plus. Understanding of general research objectives.

  • Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software.

  • Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.

  • Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.

  • Must be highly motivated and able to work well independently and in a team environment.

  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills, and close attention to details.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in engineering field, electrical engineering preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

Able to perform moderate lifting. Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Able to read papers and online documents. Able to operate standard office equipment and lab equipment and tools. Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
