Cedars-Sinai Research Associate II - ACGT Core in Los Angeles, California

The goal of the Applied Genomics, Computation and Translation Core’s (AGCT) goal is to generate genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic & metagenomic information for basic and clinical research for internal Cedars-Sinai and external community members. The mission is to make complex technologies and methodologies available and interpretable to the research community.

The AGCT Core is looking for a Research Associate II to work on Research & Development. Under the direction of the Senior Technician, you will assist in the development of new technologies through research and development into the core through service validation and kit assessment and validation. Other responsibilities include:

  • Perform mostly bench work related to genomic experiments such as, next generation sequencing, high throughput qPCR and sample management

  • Order and maintain laboratory inventory including reagents, glassware, solutions, etc

  • Under minimal supervision, conduct additional general molecular biology experiments such as RNA/DNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR, RT-PCR, ligation, restriction digests, etc. which may be used for custom services & development, validation or testing of specific biological hypothesis or quality control

  • Operate automated fluidics systems such as epMotion, platforms for QC including Agilent, qubit, nanodrop, qPCR platforms including Fluidigm, ABI open access and other genomic platforms

  • Conduct basic QC analysis and prepare scientific findings for supervisor

  • Participate in different research projects/activities involving technical director’s studies and prepare figures and tables for scientific publications related to Research Institute and investigator’s research projects

  • When required, edit and maintain sample user LIMS data in a database

  • When required, deliver service results and interpret for clients

  • Independently write 1-2 scripts for services with epMotion automation, contribute to the new assay/protocol testing and validation when required

  • Perform new single-cell genomics/epigenomics services

  • Carry out daily activities of the Core as necessary

Education required:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological sciences

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred

Experience required:

  • 3+ years of experience in genomics and/or NGS

  • Under minimal supervision, ability to research, develop and implement new laboratory procedures and protocols

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with peers and customers
