What will you be doing:

The Single Path Coder reviews clinical documentation as appropriate to assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes for the purpose of both facility and professional fee billing as well as reporting both internally and externally. Assigns codes in accordance with all Official Coding Guidelines, current coding manuals, and regulatory agencies governing both facility and professional claims. Responsible for validation and abstraction of data elements in accordance with current program coding policies and following internal physician query guidelines.

  • Codes all records within the established departmental quality standards.

  • Meets established departmental productivity and accuracy standards.

  • Consistently and thoroughly abstracts additional data elements as required, e.g., OSHPD elements, Special studies, etc., as required.

  • Communicates to Coding Supervisor any concerns regarding coding, documentation, section issues and /or department issues.


Experience Requirements:

  • One (1) + years’ experience with facility outpatient/ambulatory care coding. (preferred)

  • Proven knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 coding, and APC payment methodologies. (preferred)

  • Ability to convey and/or receive written/verbal information to/from various audiences in different formats.

Educational/License/Certifications Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED.

Associate of Science in Health Information Science, completion of courses in ICD-10-CM, or CPT-4 coding from an accredited coding program. (preferred)

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-P), Certified Procedural Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). (Dual credentialed preferred)

Secondary credential to be acquired within one year of hire to the Single Path team. (CCS/CCS-P, CPC/COC, COC/CCS-P, CCS/CPC, etc. RHIT/RHIA excluded)
