The Specialty Technician II is under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assigned to perform technical duties, assist with procedures and has the responsibility to ensure smooth team work through application of knowledge with the RN, the patient, the Endoscopist, the Anesthesiologist, Ancillary personnel, and other health care team members.
Provides technical support for general and specialty patient population. Aware of patient needs while assisting the RN in implementing the plan of care for each patient.
Performs the preceptor role for students and new hires. Assists co-workers in orientation of department processes, orientees, floats and students.
Controls and maintains perioperative environments (i.e., asepsis, electrical safety, waste management and traffic patterns). Establishes and maintains a sterile field, safe, clean and organized environment.
Operates equipment used within the assigned area including the care, handling, operations, trouble shooting and taking safety precautions. Recognizes malfunctions and initiates repairs appropriately. Assembles processes and maintains instruments relevant to assigned area. Monitors and updates inventory within area as assigned.
Demonstrates competency in various GI sterile technique. Demonstrates appropriate aseptic techniques for assigned area. Articulates and educates others on proper sterilization techniques
Exhibits knowledge in care, handling, operations, and safety precautions of equipments (Video monitors, insufflator, and microscope). Involved in trouble shooting of equipment problems.
High School Diploma/GED
Current BCLS certification
Certified Surgical Technologist
Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technicians, or has received on the job training with a minimum of 2 years experience assisting with endoscopic procedures.
Previous experience providing patient transfer and transportation, helpful.
Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
