Cedars-Sinai Surgery Scheduler - OB/GYN in Los Angeles, California
The Surgery/Inpatient Scheduler schedules patient surgeries, outpatient procedures and performs other related surgery and procedure scheduling tasks for various medical specialties of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation. Depending on the needs of the department, this position may be structured as either a front-office position, with additional responsibilities of a Patient Service Representative ("PSR") that focuses on surgery scheduling and related administrative tasks or as a back-office position, with additional responsibilities of a Medical Assistant ("MA") that focuses on surgery scheduling in combination with general back office tasks.
Coordinates surgery/procedure time between patient, hospital/outpatient surgery center, and physician; Maintains calendar of surgery and procedure times; follows up with physician to resolve conflicts of schedule in a timely manner; Follows up with all parties involved to communicate changes in schedule or place of surgery; works proactively to ensure that all changes are handled accordingly
Serves as a primary contact for the patient, provides pre- and post-procedure instructions and assists with patient inquiries; Greets patients and assists in managing patient flow including set up of follow-up scheduling needs for the patient and may need to collect co-payments; Prepares charts, reviews/performs/updates demographics and insurance information; Pre-certifies procedures with insurance company; May be needed to set up exam rooms/procedure rooms
Communicates effectively with staff to solve issues with scheduling conflicts, provider disagreements, OR arrangements, equipment conflicts and CPT/ICD-10 coding.
Works proactively to ensure that all arrangements have been made to ensure a timely and orderly environment for each surgical procedure; Obtains necessary special equipment requested by physician for specific procedures
Represents the Surgical Scheduling team within the department during meetings, engagements, discussions or other business encounters
Evaluates the Surgery Scheduling process and recommend new methods for improvement; Acts as a key liaison for equipment vendors, facilitate supplier and vendor ordering and communications
May be responsible for covering as a PSR or MA depending on departmental needs. If functioning as an MA, reviewing current medications/records in medical record, take vital signs and record in medical record
High school diploma or GED required. Associate or Bachelor degree highly preferred.
One (1) year experience working as a Surgery Scheduler in an outpatient or inpatient clinical, ambulatory service center or hospital setting required.
Two (2) years experience working as a Patient Service Rep or Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinical/medical office setting; previous experience with managing high volume of calls preferred.
