Cedars-Sinai Physician Assistant - Kerlan Jobe Santa Monica (Orthopedic) in Santa Monica, California

Physician Assistant provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of Physician by performing the following duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.

  • Under the direction of the Medical Director, conduct patient assessments, order or directly provide treatments, and provide patient education and support

  • Work under protocol to develop an effective, safe and patient-centered treatment plan

  • Provide timely and complete clinical documentation in the EHR following patient visits or telephone calls

  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Medical Director regarding assigned patients and provide timely notification of changes in patient status

  • Attend case conferences, clinical rounds, and other types of meetings which address patient management and care coordination

  • Maintain ongoing communication with other members of the care team through written documentation, telephone or in-person conversation.

  • Partner with the patient to develop contracts of care as needed and provide encouragement and motivational support to promote adherence to treatment plans

  • Ensure timely access of patient appointments

Department-Specific Responsibilites:

Additional primary duties and responsibilities that are only performed in the specific department(s) below:

  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, incision and drainages, endoscopies, biopsies, suturing and wound care, and managing infection (change to manage acute and chronic medical issues).

  • Assists surgeon in operation room procedures including suturing, retracting, cleaning, providing hemostasis.

  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.

  • Perform complete physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent, and non‐urgent presentation.

  • Select, order, and perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.

  • Define/document differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnosis included.

  • Write orders for tests, procedures, and the implementation and management of therapies in accordance with company protocols.

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary and appropriate for plan of care, in collaboration with supervising physician.

  • Interpret data and diagnostic results for appropriate course of action including but not limited to blood gasses, radiology, EKG, etc., in collaboration with supervising physician.

  • Notate findings and treatment course in patient chart including follow‐up notes.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required

  • Bachelor's Degree

License/Certification:

  • Current, unrestricted California PA license required

  • ACLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross

  • DEA License required or eligible to obtain

  • National PA certification required

Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 years of experience as a Physician Assistant preferred
