Cedars-Sinai Coder Specialist I - Billing Services in Torrance, California
The Coder Specialist I is responsible for appropriately abstracting and coding all procedures, surgeries, and evaluation and management visits.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs accurate and timely coding (CPT, ICD-10 HCPCS, modifiers).
Knowledge with issues as HCFA coding regulations, concurrent care, multiple visits on the same day, consultation vs. referral, observation services and surgeries.
Assigned to EPIC work queues that are to be worked in a timely manner
Attends seminars and workshops, as applicable, for updates on new coding rules and regulations.
Elevates issues, as appropriate, to the Coding Supervisor.
Meets efficiency and quality standards.
Meets monthly productivity and quality standards as follows: understands coding trends to include NCD, LCD and CMS guidelines
Handles in a professional and confidential manner all correspondence, documentation, and files.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
License/Certification:
Required to be certified in 1 of the following: Certified Procedural Coding (CPC), Certified Procedural Coding - Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P).
Required to be certified or complete CPC license within 6 months of employment.
Experience:
One (1) year coding knowledge in physician billing such as outpatient, ancillary, ambulatory care and/or inpatient coding preferred. E&M experience preferred.
