Cedars-Sinai Ortho/ENT Coder Specialist II - Physician Billing in Torrance, California

The Orthopedic/ENT Coder

Specialist II in Physician Billing:

•Performs accurate and timely coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10,

HCPCS, modifiers).

•Maintains familiarity with such issues as HCFA coding

regulations, Medicare rules, visits and procedures on the same day,

consultation vs. referral, surgeries, etc.

•Understands and implements coding guidelines for

multi-specialty surgical practices and/or complex surgical coding.

•Attends seminars and workshops, as applicable, for updates

on new CPT codes, coding rules and regulations.

•Elevates issues, as appropriate, to the Coding Supervisor

and Manager.

•Meets productivity and quality standards: 4 to 6 cases per

hour with a 95% accuracy rate for CPT and ICD-10 coding.

•Understands coding trends to include NCD, LCD, and CMS


•Identifies trends and issues with overall division and

individual physician coding practices and proposes solutions.

•Maintains confidentiality of patient care and business

matters. Maintains strict patient information confidentiality following HIPPA

rules and guidelines and reports any violations to management.



High school required.



Certified Procedural

Coder (CPC) required. Prefer COSC or CGSC.


•Three (3) years

minimum surgical coding experience in coding unit, preferably physician or

medical group in multi-specialty surgical practices, i.e., Cardiothoracic

Surgery, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Orthopedics, etc.


surgical coding experience and general surgery or ENT a plus.


knowledge of coding surgical procedures and applicable modifiers in

multi-specialty setting.

•Understands and

applies appropriate teaching physician guidelines to coding.

•Understanding of

Windows based applications (i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook)
