Cedars-Sinai Research Operations Supervisor in West Hollywood, California

As the Research Facilities Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for the daily effectiveness operation and management of all off-site basic research laboratories and office facilities at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In this capacity, the Supervisor is responsible for the organization of work, customer satisfaction, supervision of employees, staff development, expense control and process improvement and problem solving in the delivery of services. The Supervisor reports to the Associate Director of Research Facilities Operations. She/he maintains competency skills including the ability to interact with customers with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for the twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations of research facilities at various locations off-site and occasional back-up responsibility for the Associate Director during his/her absence on-site.

  • Enforces policies and procedures to ensure the smooth operation of all research facilities including the Davis Research Building, Advance Health Sciences Pavilion, Spielberg Building, Atrium Building, and other research office and laboratory facilities throughout the medical center and off-site.

  • Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards and licensure requirements. Maintains staff compliance with medical center policies, procedures and protocols

  • Works collaboratively with various departments including Environmental Safety, Comparative Medicine, Sponsored Research & Funds Administration and Facilities Management to ensure regulatory compliance for audits, city inspections, and medical center requirements.

  • Reports operational challenges to the Associate Director, Research Facilities Operations to ensure timely resolution and minimize adverse lessor/lessee tensions.

  • Collaborates with Associate Director, Research Facilities Operations, develops business and operations plans for unit and for specific programs and services within it.

  • Collaborates with management in cross-functional process improvement, collaborative teamwork, open communication and problem solving to ensure the effective coordination and integration of services within and between units.

  • Continually updates the Space Inventory database with laboratory and office assignments.

Teamwork/Customer Relation Responsibilities

  • The Supervisor guides staff in meeting customer needs consistent with the Medical Center’s philosophy, mission, vision, strategic plan, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Professional Organization Standards and promotes the maximum growth as well as development of each employee.

  • In cooperation with users, Plant Operations, Clinical Engineering, Environmental Services, Radiation/Environmental Safety, Security, Property Management Personnel, outside vendors, and others: ensures a safe, efficient and trouble-free operation of the research facilities.

  • Coordinate and oversee renovations, modifications and new construction, including working closely with engineers and architects to solve mechanical and building/operating system deficiencies.

Team Lead/Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Supervises unit employees, including responsibility for determining qualifications, hiring, maintaining and improving competence, assigning work, coaching, training (e.g., orientation, in-service and continuing education), evaluating performance, compensation, discipline and terminating employment.

  • Oversees the daily coordination of work assignments for Laboratory Equipment Specialists, Research Facilities Coordinators and other subordinate staff at off-site Research locations.

  • Performs routine administrative functions such as reviewing and approving Kronos, equipment relocation/disposal requests, Peoplesoft requisitions, staff access requests, parking passes, etc. to support ongoing research operations.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree - Equivalent skills and experience in Research or Healthcare construction preferred.

  • Engineering Degree - MEP, Industrial, Utility or Power Plant experience preferred.

Work Experience

  • 5 Years BS degree and/or specific knowledge/experience of building operations and maintenance minimum.

  • 2 Years Leadership/Management experience including fiscal responsibilities minimum.

Licenses and Certifications

  • City of Los Angeles Boiler Operator’s License

  • Building Operations Certification - minimum

  • Medical Gas Maintenance Certification - minimum

  • Certified Building Manager - preferred

  • Certified Project Manager (CPM) - preferred
